This monthly newsletter is planned to inform you about what we are doing in schools in practice as school counselors, not only to help students, teachers, and admins but also to minimize potential problems and, further, how preventive school counseling services given by Academic Window can be used effectively in schools.

It is a known and famous reality that everybody has a consensus that school counselors can have a critical role in solving students' problems or motivating them. However, there is another reality and conflict; there are not enough counselors and time to reach out to all students in a school. Therefore, counselors can only do what they are able to do with the limited time.

New Perspective for School Counseling

I have another helpful perspective for school counselors. Examples will be given, and details will be explained in these monthly newsletters. This approach is a preventative approach, which means preventing problems before they happen and reaching out to students through teachers who have a powerful relationship with students. Since they have classes and close connections with students daily in and out of class. This approach is supported scientifically by Self-Determination Theory and Positive Psychology.

Assisting Failing Students

An essential problem to solve for schools is figuring out how to assist failing students. It is actually a problem for parents and students as well. In practice, nobody wants to be unsuccessful since every person wants to be successful, according to success theory. Then, teachers, counselors, or admins should find the real problems and focus on solving them. Every responsible person has the intention to eliminate them, but the main problem is reaching to correct data and using the right approach for each student. In this newsletter, I will gradually try to explain how to reach out the actionable data and use positive psychological approaches applicable to each student individually, which is provided by Academic Window, www.academicwindow.com. Mentor Assistant Certification Program

It is a very helpful program for mentor assistant candidates and mentees. Since mentees learn from mentors and increase their success. Mentors also develop themself and practice their theoretical information. They learn how to be patient in real life and how to behave with others. So, all good behavior could be internalized to use in real life.

This certification program is a solution for improving failing students’ motivation and success as well. Details will be explained in the next newsletters.
