The Power of School Counselors: Building Safe Schools

Dear Counselor;

In this newsletter, depending on my experiences, I highlight the importance of your role and ability to create a safe learning environment in the school. I have authored newsletters for students, teachers, principals, parents, and finally for school counselors. I'm addressing you finally because of your role, responsibilities, and functions in the K-12 education system I summarized here. In my perspective, counselors are the cornerstone of this system, given their crucial responsibilities in fostering a safe learning environment. As demonstrated in my doctoral thesis, I contend that counselors should not be exclusively sought or mandated for troubled students upon the principal's request; instead, they should proactively engage with all students through collaboration with teachers for students' motivation and well-being. It helps build a safe learning environment in a school.

School counselors play a fundamental role in the K-12 education system, creating a safe learning environment and ensuring long-term sustainability.

Your role as a counselor is pivotal in establishing a secure, nurturing, and motivating atmosphere for our students. We have full confidence in the consistent and successful execution of your duties. Your educational background equips you with the necessary tools and knowledge to guarantee that our students excel academically and develop emotional resilience to tackle real-world challenges.

Your contributions to developing strong relationships

Your impact extends beyond students to encompass teachers and parents. You are the linchpin that brings the school community together, cultivating more robust relationships between students and teachers while fostering a positive, open, and productive learning atmosphere.

Your outreach to parents is equally important. You not only keep them informed about their child's academic and emotional well-being but also provide ongoing guidance in a motivating and constructive manner. This collaboration between home and school is indispensable for your students' development.

The importance of your role cannot be overstated. You are the guiding force that consistently aids students in navigating the intricacies of their academic journey and personal growth. Your unwavering dedication, expertise, and compassion for their well-being are commendable. On behalf of the entire education community, I express my profound gratitude and appreciation for your tireless efforts and invaluable daily contributions.

I firmly believe that your role extends beyond simply assisting students with issues within your school; you actively support and motivate all students. Caring for all students does not necessarily entail individual meetings with each student; instead, building a counseling management system similar to that used by Trees. A school looks like a tree that feeds all fruits through its branches.

According to my hypothesis, A counselor:

could reach all students through teachers, motivating them and addressing all potential issues.

could reach out to all parents or do so through teachers, offering guidance to ensure their satisfaction.

could engage with all teachers and conduct initiatives that enhance their status and effectiveness in the classroom.

I understand such tasks may only be feasible using a specialized tool developed for counselors. I am confident that you are already doing your utmost for your school. In recognition, my colleagues and I, with our master's and PhD students, have developed software to facilitate these objectives. To accomplish all of this and provide the necessary guidance to everyone involved necessitates collaborative efforts within the school and the establishment of a comprehensive knowledge base about students. You can guide teachers, students, parents, and administrators by amalgamating the collected information with your expertise. As a school counselor, I firmly believe that our educational backgrounds and experiences demand this approach.
